Parent Communication

Ive seen a lot of posts recently about Parent Communication and ways to keep up with documentation. Hers isn't a new post, but I came across a post by Mrs. T at S is for Second Grade (http://sisforsecondgrade.blogspot.com/2011/04/keeping-up-with-joneses.html). She uses a notebook to document communication. I absolutely love this idea! I like the thought of being able to grab the binder and go to any meeting with everything handy. My only thought is, how would I document emails? I wanted to get my lovely followers' opinions on this. What do you do about emails with parents? Some emails are not necessary to document, but I know quite a few are. Using this binder method, how would you document emails? Thanks for any ideas :)

  1. Hey Cassie. I was in a similar dilemma last year. I'm not sure I've completely I solved the problem, but I have found a way that works for me. If it is crazy super legally important, I always print the email and store a copy in my binder AND in that students file. If it is only kind of important I move the email to a folder in my inbox for safe keeping and document the date and subject of the email in my binder, so that I remember to go back to the original email if needed. Does that makes sense?

  2. I make a digital folder for parent emails & send them there to archive them. When I had a parent meeting, I typed in the name of the parent or parents to retrieve all of those emails & printed them to take to the meeting along with a binder like you described. I put in divider tabs for each student's name to organize and separate phone call doc. & filed written notes in the student's hanging file.

  3. Hi! I've seen this method in some classrooms here in England. It looked like a GREAT idea! I like the above idea about keeping emails in folders and printing them when needed.

Also, I would love if you would stop by my blog-I have a FREEBIE for K-2 notebooks!

  4. We use Outlook so I have a folder in Outlook for parent e-mails. I save all parent emails there so that it won't clog up my inbox. It has been very helpful. I hate to print them because too much paper drives me crazy. When necessary, I can sort by parent and print.
