I don't know about you, but I love reading Kevin Henkes books to my students. The kids really seem to connect to the characters and I find that their thinking really grows with the books. These books can be used for all kinds of reading skills and strategies: making connections, character analysis, comparing and contrasting, adjectives, descriptive writing, and (one of my faves) author's message.
I really enjoyed watching my students discuss and give reasons for their thinking. They totally impressed me! :)
Here is an anchor chart that we worked on a little at a time after reading each book. They came up with each message all on their own. It's moments like that that totally make being a teacher one of the best jobs in the world!
This is fantastic!
