First Post of 2014: Currently and Resolutions

Hi everyone! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year! I haven't done much blogging this past 2 weeks and it has felt kind of nice. {However if did take me a good long while to go and look at all the posts I missed!}
I am linking up with Farley at Oh' Boy 4th Grade for the first currently of 2014!

Listening: We have 3 sweet pups right now (2 are ours and 1 is a foster that we are trying to find a home for). They are the laziest pups sometimes! And the foster girl is a big time snorer. We call her our Little Piggy.
Zoey (our sweet foster), Cruz, and Molly
Loving: The past 2 Christmases, we have lived with family. I still got my 2 weeks off of course, but it just wasn't as relaxing as being in your own home! I've gotten to decorate, have people over, lounge, clean, and organize. It's been great!
Thinking: My word for 2014 is going to be balance. I am a very all or nothing type person, and so in the past I have been 100% focused on school and not so much myself. I've gained weight in the 4 years I've been teaching, so I really want to lose that weight and just do a better job of taking care of myself. We want to have kiddos soon and I want to be in the best possible shape to carry them and then take care of them.
Wanting: Absolutely nothing! This has been an amazing Christmas break, and while I love relaxing, it doesn't help with working out and eating healthy. I do much better being on a schedule/routine. So, I'm actually even kind of ready to go back to school on Monday.
Needing: Speaking of school, I really really need to put my grades in! I haven't even touched my school bag this whole 2 weeks!
Memory/tradition: I had a 'My Favorite Things' Christmas party this year and it was a big hit! Look for a post soon about all the details! I will definitely be making that party an annual one. :)

Today you are getting a 2 for 1 because I'm also posting my resolutions for 2014. I tried to make mine pretty generic and simple because it seems like way too much pressure to say "I'm going to lose 20 pounds" or "I'm going to clean my classroom every afternoon". Check out A Peach for the Teach to see some more resolutions!

Personal: I need to take care of myself so much better than I do now. That means doing more of this: eating whole foods, working out, drinking water, positive thinking and less of this: eating junk, being lazy, drinking soda, negative thinking. I can do it! :)
Professional: We don't have a very great math curriculum and so I sometime feel like I'm not doing as great a job as a could. I will change that this semester! Luckily my teammate and I are on the same page about most things, so we can bounce lots of ideas off of each other.
Classroom: I usually clean my desk off each afternoon so I can start fresh the next day, but I'm a big secret piler. If you walked in my classroom, you wouldn't know it, but I have about 2-3 different spots I shove things when I don't know where to put them or when I don't have time to put them in the right spot. I'm hoping to clear some of that out on our workday on Monday.
Blog/TpT: For my blog- I want to make more comments on the blogs I read. I feel like I got way more comments 2 years ago when I started than I do now, even though I'm posting more content now than I was then. I think everyone is just SO busy that sometimes it's hard to leave a meaningful comment. My love language is "Words of Affirmation" so comments really really mean a lot to me! TpT- I don't have tons of goals for TpT mainly because I do it for fun and to help others, so I'm pretty happy with how things are going with that. Basically when creativity strikes I get something done and when it's not striking, I'm OK with that.
Just for fun: I want to start a new book series. I've read Twilight, Hunger Games, 50 Shades of Grey, and the Crossfire series. Any suggestions?

  1. Your doggies are so cute. I love dogs, but am extremely allergic, so no pets here. On your resolutions, I have the same one about leaving comments. It's so important to encourage each other. Happy 2014!

  2. At the risk of commenting twice in one day and looking like a total creeper (hah), I found this post that showed something really cute some bloggers in Ohio did for their meet-up, and I wanted to share it with you! It looks like a little blog directory of everyone who attended. If we have another North Texas meet-up, I would totally make one of these for us (although, judging by last time, ours would have to be a BOOKLET to fit everyone who attended! Who knew there were so many of us?!).

  3. So glad I found you over at Farley's Currently! I need to make math my focus too. I want to start math groups, but never have (or find) the time... I just saw your post "Building the Math Workshop" on your side bar and am going to take a look.

    Thanks for sharing.

  4. You should definitely check out the Divergent series by Veronica Roth - they are really popular right now because they are coming up with a movie in March. I loved them!

I also need to keep a more organized room, but I'd even be okay with just clearing my desk daily and even having secret stacks - haha - as long as it looks good, right? :)
