Guess what, friends?! I am here today to make your life EASIER!
Do you spend your first day of pre-planning moving your furniture around trying to figure out what setup is going to work for you? How about if you are a little ADD and get tired of looking at the same thing all year long?
Well... I am pretty much both of those people! But, I have decided that I need to work SMARTER, not harder.
I pulled up my trusty PowerPoint (which I use for everything!) and inserted various shapes to represent my furniture layout.
Then, I was able to move things around, create different gathering areas, move the desks- all without breaking a sweat! :) I don't know about you, but I'm all about not sweating at work.
I'm a little OCD, so I took my digital layout one step further and changed the color of the items and labeled them. I wanted to really be able to SEE my classroom without lifting a finger.
My team decided we would be team-teaching next year, which means I would only be teaching LA/SS, so I really needed to change up my room. I will not be teaching Math, so I am gaining a lot more space to use for a reading/writing focus.
I hope that this idea was helpful to you and that it can save you some time when school starts in August. I'd love to hear your feedback in the comments below or you can connect with me on Facebook or Instagram!

Cassie,
ReplyDeleteThis idea is PERFECT for me! I am a "tad" OCD and play with room arrangement all the time! I love how it is even color coded and labeled:)
Thanks for sharing!

Tammy,
DeleteYes my little OCD heart took over when I made that. I'm thinking it really shouldn't make me THAT happy to look at my layout, but alas, it does. :)
That's a great idea! Mine usually ask us to tape a layout to the door. I'm going to do that! :)
ReplyDeleteCassie you should totally do a reveal in the fall with the real photos! love this
ReplyDeleteI've actually used power point to make a floor plan before, but I love the colors and patterns you added. I'm going to have to do that! Thanks for the bright idea!

Such a great organizational tool (and back-saving, too!). Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThis is a fabulous idea! I also wanted to let you know that you are going to LOVE team-teaching in first grade. This will be my third year teaching math/science/ss. My teammate teaches reading and writing. Please let me know if I can help you figure things out. I remember our first year was a learning experience, but now we can't imagine teaching any other way.
