One of my favorite things is teaching my kiddos how to be good people. I try my best to model for them how I'd like them to act. It would be totally normal for you to hear me call my students 'Sir' and 'Ma'am' throughout the day. I apologize to them when I do something wrong (let's face it.. that's probably more times than I'd like to admit). I purposely leave my kids alone for a minute or 2 just so I can talk about integrity when I return.
I think it's important for us to not only teach the academics, but social behavior as well. There is a lot of negativity in this world and I'd like to teach my students that we should still care about, help, and love each other (and ourselves!)
Enjoy!
I also try to use "good manners" with my students. We discuss what respect is and I have the students model it. We show examples of "good" manners as well as examples of "bad" manners. I have a booklet of our class rules and after we discuss each rule, each student draws a picture of him/herself exhibiting that rule. This I hope helps the student to visualize him/herself in a positive way.
